Join The Book Revue for an evening with Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman of the Gift of the Givers as he tells us the story behind this incredible organisation
Gift of the Givers was founded in 1992 following a revelation to Dr. Sooliman by his religious leader, a Sufi sheikh from Istanbul who said to him: “You will serve all people of all races, of all religions, of all colours, of all classes, of all political affiliation and of all geographical location. You will serve them unconditionally.”
This NGO has gone on to become the largest and most effective disaster response NGO of African origin in the continent. From the floods of Malawi and Mozambique to the bombs of Bosnia and Syria, Gift of the Givers travel to some of the most desolate parts of the world, responding to floods, war, famine, tsunamis, kidnappings and earthquakes. The response is done without religious prejudice or judgement and serves a world in need.
Imtiaz Sooliman is a national treasure. He is a South African, a Muslim, a husband and father, a philanthropist and a doctor but foremost a man who practices peace, humanity and tolerance.
We will be selling the book Imtiaz Sooliman and the gift of the Givers – A Mercy to All by Shafiq Morton on the evening.
