SEAN DISNEY AND VAUGHAN DE LA HARPE SHARE THEIR ADVENTURES IN “POLES APART WITH SOME POINTY BITS IN BETWEEN”.
Poles Apart is the story of Vaughan de la Harpe and Sean Disney becoming the first South Africans to achieve the Explorers Grand Slam. To earn this accolade, a climber must successfully reach the summit of the highest mountain on each of the seven continents and must ski haul to both the South and North Poles. There are fewer than 50 people in the world who have achieved this feat.
The book tells the story of the nitty gritty encounters and challenges involved in extreme mountaineering but it breaks the mould of conventional accounts with its combination of humour, honesty and irreverence. Poles Apart is told in a story format so you feel as though you are listening to these men telling their hair-raising stories whilst enjoying a cold beer or two in their company.
